🛣️ Why Endurance Geometry?

When choosing a new road bike, I faced the classic dilemma: go for a purely aerodynamic, aggressive racing machine, or prioritize comfort and endurance? Given my training plan and the fact that I want to spend long hours on the bike without coming home completely exhausted, the choice clearly fell on Endurance geometry. The MERIDA Scultura Endurance offers a more upright riding position, which puts much less stress on the spine, neck, and shoulders. It is not a bike on which I will win sprints, but it is a machine on which I can easily handle 100+ kilometer rides with a smile on my face.

Endurance vs. Race Geometry

The main difference lies in the Stack and Reach values. Endurance bikes generally have a higher Stack (higher handlebar position) and a shorter Reach (shorter distance to the handlebars), which ensures a more relaxed and natural riding position. Ideal for those of us who do not plan to spend hours in an extremely stretched aerodynamic position.

🖤 Stealth Design and XL Size Specifics

The visual aspect of the bike is just as important to me as the technical one. I chose the Silk Black (Dark Silver) colorway, which is basically a beautiful, subtle "stealth" design. Matte black with discreet silver elements looks elegant, fierce, and most importantly – it never goes out of style. Finding a bike in this above-standard size that doesn't visually look like a ladder can sometimes be a challenge. However, the Scultura Endurance maintains very nice and balanced proportions even in the XL size. The bike fits me perfectly and provides the necessary stability even during fast descents.

⚙️ Technical Corner: Aluminum, Carbon, and Reliable 105

Although carbon frames rule the cycling world today, modern, top-tier aluminum still has a lot to offer – especially when it comes to the price-performance ratio or overall durability.

Aluminum Frame and Carbon Fork: The frame is made of a lightweight aluminum alloy (Prolite 66) that is stiff enough for efficient power transfer. However, the key is the full-carbon CF3 fork, which excellently absorbs micro-vibrations from our (often imperfect) roads, thereby significantly saving your hands.
Shimano 105 Groupset: The gold standard of road cycling. The Shimano 105 groupset offers practically the same performance and shifting precision as the more expensive Ultegra or Dura-Ace groupsets. The latest generations additionally bring a 12-speed cassette for perfect gear spacing.
WIRE PORT Integration: A modern frame feature where all the cabling (brakes and shifting) enters the frame elegantly straight through a specially designed headset. This creates a very clean "stealth" look without unnecessary cables around the handlebars.
Tire Clearance: A huge advantage of this frame is the ability to fit wider tires (up to 700x35C). This means that the bike handles not only smooth asphalt but also broken roads or cycling "back roads" with ease and comfort.

Summary and Rating

After the first few rides, I can confidently say that choosing the MERIDA Scultura Endurance 400 was a direct hit. It is a versatile, reliable, and exceptionally comfortable companion. I am looking forward most to the long weekend Zone 2 workouts, where I will be able to build aerobic endurance without unnecessary back and neck pain. If you are looking for a bike that will support you on endless asphalt, swallow up bumps, and look great while doing it, this category is definitely worth considering.
