The Right Time for the First Step

Running alone is always a challenge. And for someone who has avoided stepping off the expected path their whole life, it can be even harder. Every step was accompanied by a feeling of shame. But why? I kept asking myself this question over and over, but the answer never came. So I decided to deal with it in my own way – I ran only in the early hours or at night to avoid the gaze of others. But that was my old self. The one that hid from the world. My new self wants to live. It wants to be among people, to belong to a community, to be a valuable part of the world and no longer feel ashamed of the steps it takes. And it was this desire that led me to the idea of being part of a community that shares the same passion – running and experiencing and sharing every moment together. In Ostrava, however, there was nothing like this. Until one young man decided to create something exceptional – Unyte Run.

The First Social Run

Monday, March 17. The weather decided to show its harsh side – a strong winter wind was pushing through the streets, rain was flooding the streets, and snowflakes appeared on the horizon. Who would even think about going for a walk or a run in such weather? On the contrary, it was the perfect day to stay home, warm and comfortable. But on this very day, something new was about to be born in Ostrava. An event that was meant to start a new chapter of the unknown. Anyone could join – from passionate runners to casual athletes, to run 5 kilometers together at a comfortable pace along the typical Ostrava route by the river. But none of this happened. Nature was against it. Or was it? The start was postponed to Saturday, March 22, and this time the weather showed up in a much more favorable light, if not the best in the past few weeks. It offered a beautiful, warm spring day full of sunshine.
Nothing stood in the way of the first Social Run. In the center of Ostrava, in front of the Brainmarket store, about 100 young people gathered with the goal of making an unforgettable first step in the Unyte Run community. And indeed, that’s exactly what happened. A unique event that was definitely not about running, but about meeting new amazing people. I was lucky enough to meet a few very friendly and interesting individuals. This was not a one-off event. We will see each other again in a week, once again with the same energy and amazing atmosphere, which only strengthens our connection as a community.

The Second Social Run

Saturday, March 29. This time there was no doubt – Unyte Run was not just a one-off shot. After the success of the first run, the community met again, ready to continue what it had started. The weather was again favorable, and in the spring air, there was something more than just excitement – there was a mix of confidence and joy that we were together again. It was no longer just a group of individuals who happened to meet. This time, we formed a united rhythm, full of energy and dynamism. People came with smiles, greeting familiar faces, and meeting new enthusiastic runners who joined us. Once again, we set off on the five-kilometer route through the city, along the river – but this time, with the feeling that we were running in an environment that was no longer unfamiliar, but close to us and still enriching us with new energy. The second Social Run was proof that it’s more than just running. It’s a community that grows with each step. And we look forward to what the next runs will bring.

Every Step Matters

Unyte Run is not about speed or breaking personal running records. It’s about the sense of belonging, about the joy of movement that we share together. It doesn’t matter what the route is, but who we are with along the way. With each run, we move forward – not just in the kilometers run through Ostrava, but also in our own lives. This is just the beginning. Every new step, every new meeting, writes a new story. And the most important one? It’s still to come. We just need to step towards it.

For me, it truly was just the beginning. Something shifted – I stopped waiting for the next run, the next challenge, the next opportunity. I started actively seeking them out, even creating them myself. From a passive observer, I became someone who eagerly walks (and runs) toward new experiences. And the more steps I took, the more running became a natural part of my life – not an obligation, but a joy. And it definitely doesn’t end with running. Life is so much more than that. I began stepping into the unknown – sometimes with people I’d never met before. But it’s often within that unfamiliar space where the strongest connections are born. Every success begins with a willingness to step out of comfort and move into places where the ground beneath your feet isn’t yet steady.
